WOODCARVING: INTRO TO SPOON MAKING

WOODCARVING: INTRO TO SPOON MAKING

Explore the techniques of shaping wood through spoon carving. This is a 3 week course that meets once a week for 3 hours at a time. We will begin by learning how to mark and plan spoons in preparation for cutting. We will then use handsaws and hatchets to roughly cut out the spoon shape, focusing on safety and cutting techniques. You will then be introduced to a variety of hand tools such as spokeshaves, carving gouges, knives, files, and rasps to achieve a spoon shape of your original design. After shaping we will discuss sanding and finishing techniques that will be applied to each spoon. Everyone will have a chance to take something home that they are proud of!

Beginners welcome! No woodworking experience necessary. All tools and materials provided. Closed toed shoes are required.
