Together The Joel Fund, Veteran Artist Bernardine Donato, and Tobacco Woods Brewing Company seek to showcase original artwork by North Carolina Veteran Artists over Veterans Day Weekend 11/10 – 11/13.

This opportunity is open to all veterans of the United States Armed Forces. All artwork must be original. Visual and performing art mediums welcome.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

ART / SHOW DETAILS

Tobacco Woods Brewing Company is a family friendly establishment, so please keep that in mind when submitting artwork with sensitive subject matter. If you have any questions or concerns regarding subject matter, please contact Isabella Brezenski at isabella@thejoelfund.org or 919 200 0886. 

Must be a US Military Veteran, Active Duty, Reservist, and/or National Guard service member located in North Carolina 

All art mediums accepted – 2D, 3D, literary art, performance, and more 

Artwork must be original and owned by the artist

Artists may submit up to 3 artworks for consideration

This is not a juried show, but pieces will be selected due to limited space. 

All experience levels accepted 

No artwork will be sold at this show

TIMELINE

Submission open date: July 18th, 2022

Submission end date: September 30th, 2022

Veteran Artists are notified of selection by the middle of October 

Selected Artwork must be delivered (via mail or in-person) by: 10/31 – 11/4 

Dates and times of NC Veteran Art Show at TWBC: Thursday 11/10 – 3 PM Sunday 11/13

Meet the Artist Reception on Veterans Day Friday 11/10 5 – 7 PM at TWBC Refreshments provided by The Joel Fund. 

Sunday 1-3pm 11/12 for the Live Readings/Live Performances  

Artwork must be picked up between 11/14 – 11/20 at 822 S White St, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Please schedule a time to pick up your artwork between 9am-5pm Monday 11/14 – Friday 11/18 and between 12 – 6 PM Saturday 11/19 – 12 – 6 PM Sunday 11/20. 

If you are local to the Triangle area, you are encouraged to pick up your artwork Sunday 11/13 between 3 – 6 PM at Tobacco Woods Brewing Company after the end of the show.

SIZING / SPECS

Due to space restraints, artwork should be no larger than 24’’x36’’ for 2D pieces and no larger 2’x3’x3’ and no more than 100lbs for 3D pieces.

If a piece is larger than these perimeters, please contact Isabella Brezenski to see if we can accommodate said piece at isabella@thejoelfund.org or at 919.200.0886.

2D artwork should be wired or framed and be ready for hanging.

SUBMITTING LOCALLY

If you are local to the Triangle or within driving distance and wish to submit artwork in-person, you can do so by setting an appointment with Isabella Brezenski, isabella@thejoelfund.org.  

You will meet at the Joel Fund Art Studio, 822 S. White Street, Suite 106, Wake Forest, NC, 27587.

SUBMITTING BY MAIL

If mailing artwork, please send it to The Joel Fund at 822 S White St, Wake Forest, NC 27587.

A self-addressed shipping label must be included in order to be able to return the artwork. The same packaging used to send the artwork will be used to send the artwork back to the artist.

How long did you serve in the military? 

How has art helped you after your time in the military? 

How does your chosen art medium help you express yourself creatively? 

How long have you been practicing art?

What inspired you to create this/these piece(s) of art?

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS

The Joel Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to reconnecting veterans to life at home located in Wake Forest, NC. The Joel Fund’s Operation ART Program offers low cost art classes for veterans and their families. Operation ART program students will showcase their work created in art classes alongside submitted artworks.

Bernardine Donato retired after serving 24 years in the US Navy and the CA Air National Guard. She is a veteran artist who currently resides in Durham, NC.

Tobacco Wood Brewing Company (TWBC) is the first female veteran-owned brewery in North Carolina headed by Mara Shelton. Known for their award-winning local beer, community events, veteran focus, and Mara’s support of the arts, TWBC is the perfect place to showcase local NC veteran artists.
