HER VALOR - A GROUP PROJECT
FIBER ARTS: HER VALOR – A GROUP PROJECT – VA-CONNECTED WOMEN VETERANS
EXPERIENCE THROUGH TEXTILES
The Joel Fund Operation ART program is facilitating an experience for female veterans to create a collaborative Group Project for the 2024 Veteran Creative Arts Festival Competition. This festival is open to veterans enrolled in the VA and this project is specifically for female veterans enrolled in the VA. This project will be led by Grace McFetters Caldwell, Army Veteran and Fiber Artist. Grace will lead beginners and experienced artists alike through creating a patchwork tapestry as a group. You do not need to be experienced with fabric, textiles, or art to participate in this project. This piece will be entered into the competition locally and could advance to the national competition.
Over three weeks, we are going to make a hanging textile art piece to enter into the VA Creative Arts Festival where participants will learn dyeing techniques to express their individual experiences as female veterans. Each individual will produce various fabrics in multiple colors using multiple dyeing techniques which will then be pieced together to create a collaborative patchwork tapestry. Participants will discuss color psychology and learn different techniques of textile painting and dyeing.
If you would like to participate in this 3-week project, please register below so we know who is participating, we have a maximum of 6 slots! There may be planning meetings using Zoom in between in-person classes for planning purposes.
You must provide evidence of your VA enrollment upon registration to participate in this project.
