Breaking the Stigma: The Joel Fund's "Voices of Resilience" Event Focuses on Military Mental Health
RALEIGH, NC – The Joel Fund is proud to announce its inaugural event, Voices of Resilience: A Suicide Prevention Dialogue, on Friday, September 5, from 12 PM to 3 PM at Whitaker & Atlantic (1053 E Whitaker Mill Rd, Ste 111, Raleigh, NC). This year’s theme, “Rooted in Resilience,” aims to foster an open dialogue and continue to break the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health within the military community.
We are honored to announce that North Carolina’s First Lady, Anna Stein, will deliver the opening remarks. Her participation underscores the importance of this critical issue and the commitment of state leadership to supporting our military community.
The event will bring together community members, mental health professionals, and military advocates for an afternoon focused on understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by service members and their families. With an expected attendance of at least 80 people, the intimate setting will allow for meaningful conversations and connections.
The afternoon will feature speeches from two distinguished speakers, Sara Wilkinson and Al Lampkins, whose powerful stories and insights will set the stage for the panel and table discussions. Following the speeches, a structured panel discussion will guide small-group conversations at each table, ensuring every attendee has a chance to participate and contribute to the dialogue. The expert panel will address critical topics, including communication barriers and myths about suicide and mental health.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is open, but limited seats remain. Once all seats are filled, interested community members are encouraged to join the waitlist. Registration and event information can be found at https://www.thejoelfund.org/ voices-of-resilience/.
We are thrilled to have been awarded a Community Engagement Grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation to support this impactful community event. To learn more about the Bob Woodruff Foundation, please visit https://bobwoodrufffoundation. org/.
