Operation A.R.T.™ classes are for active duty military, veterans and their families. This program is a collaboration between The Joel Fund and the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. The Joel Fund’s mission is to improve the lives of veterans and their families by providing a connection to effective non-traditional services. 

 

First Session

 

Basic Drawing

Would you like to be able to express your ideas and feelings through drawing? This course is designed to help students express themselves while they develop drawing skills. Students will explore drawing while working with graphite pencils, stick charcoal and colored pastels. Students will work on principles of observation, composition, perspective, proportion and mark making. Students will produce many drawings and sketches moving them towards a culminating piece done in colored Pastels. If you are a beginner or experienced artist this class will work for you! No prior experience is required. Materials will be provided.

Pen & Ink Drawing

Using a permanent ink pen, pencil, blender and paper you will doodle, doodle and doodle! You can be a beginner or experienced artist, anything is possible, one stroke at a time. Students will learn methods to begin a doodle or drawing using different shapes and shading to create a one of kind art piece. Let your creative juices take over after mastering this relaxing, easy to learn, fun way of creating beautiful structured images. Your imagination will soar to create whatever you desire – shapes, trees, flowers, and animals, whatever moves you. There is no right or wrong answer. This process will teach you how to control your tools but not your creativity or imagination.

Photography I

Are you interested in having a basic understanding of a digital camera and basic shooting techniques? This class will help you answer those questions as well as help you to take photographs that are more meaningful. Students will work with their camera’s manual to understand its capabilities. Composition skills will be developed while picture taking. Through this course, your photographs will progress from a snap shot to an image reflecting personal artistic decisions.

Introduction to Oil Painting

Have you always had an interest in art but maybe you have never taken a class? Are you an experienced artist and would like to try oil painting? Then this is the class for you! This course is designed to help student’s develop ways to communicate meaningful ideas and feelings through painting. Students will explore color theory, composition, value and the application of paint by palate knife. Basic drawing is recommended not required. Materials will be provided.

Second Session

Photography II

Are you interested in taking your photographic skills to another level? In this course, you will learn how to create images that can only be seen by your “mind’s eye” using the technical capabilities of your camera. You will also explore ways to manipulate your images to create meaning. This course will further your ability to express ideas and meaning reflecting a personal style. 

PREREQUISITE: Photography I.
